Description

Middlesbrough Environment City is an independent charity that promotes sustainable living using One Planet Living.  The charity is currently seeking a new Director, employed by Middlesbrough Council and seconded into the charity.  This is an exciting time for the charity as it leads on community engagement in Middlesbrough’s Green Strategy and also plays a significant role in tackling health inequalities in partnership with Public Health South Tees.

The current programme is in excess of £1m per annum and includes priorities around sustainable food, affordable warmth and active travel.  Working closely with MEC’s Trustees and Middlesbrough Council, the Director provides strategic leadership to the staff team of around 35 as well as working on policy change and fundraising.

The successful candidate will be innovative and self-motivated, with a passion for tackling the climate crisis and addressing health inequalities.  With a proven track record of management in the voluntary sector, they will be able to demonstrate past experience of partnership working and income generation.

To develop and implement a comprehensive forward strategy for Middlesbrough Environment City, within the One Planet living Framework, and with clear links to Middlesbrough Councils Green Strategy and Public Health priorities

To maintain an annual Business Plan and budget for the organisation, which is reviewed at regular intervals and reported to the Management Board

To take overall responsibility for, and lead on, the implementation of the Forward Strategy and Business Plan and report progress to the Environment City Management Board, including monitoring of the project programme and finances

To obtain funding and sponsorship to provide sufficient resources for the delivery of the organisation’s activities

To oversee the strategic management of Middlesbrough Council owned allotments
