Description

Based in London

£34,616 - £39,046 plus London Weighting of £3,550

A world-leading sustainability organisation is on the lookout for an experienced and senior professional to raise cash and further increase the impact of its work.

Forum for the Future is one of the most important, vibrant and highly respected international organisations operating in the sustainability sector today. Now in its 19th year, Forum has evolved its strategy for delivering a more sustainable future by moving from working one-to-one with leading UK businesses to system innovation at a global level. At its heart is the belief that no one company can enable significant change alone and that making a real difference lies in ambitiously facilitating system change through massive collaborations.

Working with its large network of dedicated partners, which includes Unilever, Nike, O2, Kingfisher and many other of the world’s largest and most influential businesses, NGOs and other organisations, Forum is uniquely positioned to tackle the most complex sustainability challenges with real solutions that have the potential to be taken to scale.

But just like any other major player in the field, it needs money to grow and extend its potential. That is why the not-for-profit is searching for an energetic, productive and passionate fundraiser to step up its fundraising ambitions with trusts and foundations. The successful applicant will have the challenge of developing and implementing a fresh strategy within a dynamic and fast-paced environment at the forefront of sustainability.

Previous fundraising efforts have been successful for Forum, with more than 20% of some years’ income coming from philanthropic funds. But it has also been inconsistent. Forum’s fundraising activity is currently carried out on an ad hoc and opportunistic basis and resourced by an enthusiastic team of delivery staff drawn from across the organisation.  The aim now is that fundraising becomes a “core” Forum activity.

The intention is that funds raised from trusts and foundations should enable all of Forum’s offices, UK and non-UK, to:

  • implement strategy to its fullest extent;
  • extend the reach of its mission; and
  • provide greater diversification of Forum’s financial base.

Our 2015 target is to raise funds from trusts and foundations equivalent to 20% of Forum’s annual income and reach a state where this is a more consistently achieved figure.

The successful applicant will drive activity towards this target independently, but with significant support from the Director of Programmes and the Chief Executive.

It is important to note that the organisation is looking for someone who is able to quickly get to grips with the complex nature of Forum’s work and immerse themselves in its systems change strategy so that they can help to accelerate it. To assist them, they will undergo a four-month programme of emersion in the delivery teams (Energy, Food, the Lab, Sustainable Business and Futures). Following this period, Forum would seek to embed the Trust Fundraising Manager within one of the teams on a half-yearly rotating basis.

This new fundraising position is as challenging as it is exciting and potentially rewarding, and will give the successful applicant the opportunity to work at the cutting of edge of change in one of the leading organisations in the sustainability arena today. If that is something which excites you and you think you have what we are looking for, then we want to hear from you.

Closing date: Early September 2014 TBC
First (telephone) interviews:  September
