Description

The New Forest National Park Authority is responsible for conserving and enhancing the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the New Forest and for promoting opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of its special qualities by the public.

Trees in private ownership can provide a positive amenity impact across the New Forest in both towns and countryside. You will work as part of a team to ensure that such trees are retained and managed in ways that help to preserve and enhance the New Forest.

You will have:

  • knowledge of tree species identification, pests and diseases of trees and the law relating to tree and hedgerow protection
  • experience of assessing trees and deciding appropriate management options in response to applications to work on protected trees and in making Tree Preservation Orders
  • experience of assessing trees on development sites and negotiating with applicants, professionals and colleagues

Good communication and customer service skills are essential to deal with the public, colleagues and partner organisations on a wide range of tree related matters. You will have competent IT skills to use specialist programmes to produce letters, reports, plans and photographs on a daily basis.

You will be an effective team member and be able to use your initiative to work independently when required and have the ability to manage a reactive workload and changing priorities.

This post requires a valid driving licence and is based at the Authority’s offices in Lymington, Hampshire.
