Description

Tree Desk Editor – Europe

Introduction

The Tree is an innovative communications initiative run by the Global Call for Climate Action, a network of more than 460 organisations. Through targeted Alerts, the Tree aims to build a diverse and international network of influential messengers working together to shape the discourse on climate change at global and regional levels, and to create the momentum required for accelerating the ongoing transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies. Ultimately, the goal is to secure a resilient world safe from runaway climate change by shifting public opinion, political dynamics, business decisions, investment flows and personal behaviours that drive carbon emissions and the impacts threatening people all around the world.

About the Role

This is an opportunity for someone who understands the power of storytelling, narrative, frames and messaging. Someone who is passionate about using their skills as a compelling communicator and as a strategic, effective networker to bolster the global effort to tackle climate change.

Key elements of this role include:

  • Writing and editing Tree Alerts (communications packages) for a diverse and multi-sectoral European audience;
  • Researching and analysing information, stories, press releases, reports and evolving narratives about energy and climate issues;
  • Maintaining and growing an existing, diverse network of influential European contacts;
  • Attending events on climate and energy in Brussels and elsewhere in Europe;
  • Developing the project to stay at the leading edge of climate change communications theory and practice;
  • Chairing meetings and leading discussions;
  • Staying on top of the European climate and energy debate;
  • Working in close collaboration with desk managers in London and Paris to decide on pan-European stories and follow developments in Brussels and EU member states;
  • Working closely with Tree desk managers around the world on global Tree Alerts and on enhancing internal processes.

Personal Specifications

  • Must have 3-5 years of experience of communications, copywriting and/or editing.
  • Must have an excellent understanding of climate and energy issues.
  • Must have experience of managing relationships with partners and/or network members.
  • Must be able to network, pitch new ideas and conduct face-to-face meetings.
  • Must be able to use basic publishing and email client tools (WordPress, Mailchimp).
  • Knowledge of the latest climate change communications theories an advantage.
  • Must have interest in social media tools.
  • Existing networks in climate, energy and/or communications an advantage.
  • Must be native English speaker (other European languages a plus, in particular French and/or Spanish).

Other information

  • Based in Brussels.

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
