Transportation & Climate Change Paid Internship

The Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP), an independent, non-profit think-tank, is seeking applications for a Transportation & Climate Change Intern based in Washington, D.C. CCAP has been a recognized world leader in climate and air quality policy working at the local, national and international levels since 1985. CCAP helps policymakers around the world to develop, promote and implement innovative, market-based solutions to major climate, air quality and energy problems that balance both environmental and economic interests.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Transportation & Climate Policy Intern will support CCAP’s transportation policy work, including an upcoming transportation project in Central America. CCAP’s transportation program focuses on assessing and enhancing the environmental and economic benefits of transportation and land use policies.

Responsibilities:
The internship will focus on sustainable urban mobility and transit-oriented development in developing countries. The intern will be part of a team of transportation planners, environmental professionals and finance experts performing tasks including:

• Communicating with foreign transportation and planning officials to obtain information and data needed to perform analyses
• Researching best practices, capacity building resources, analytical methodologies, etc. for sustainable transport
• Doing quantitative analysis (calculating/modeling travel impacts, GHGs, economics, measurement)
• Analyzing and writing about transport and land use policy issues

Qualifications:

• Current graduate student or recent graduate from a program in Transportation, Urban Planning, Economics, Environmental Science, Public Policy or a related field;
• Coursework in transportation planning, quantitative research, economics, energy & environmental policy required;
• Experience interpreting or operating multi-modal travel demand models, especially Cube software, is desirable
• Excellent research and quantitative skills required;
• Strong oral and written communication skills;
• GHG emissions calculation experience helpful.
• Spanish language essential, project involves dealing with transportation planners and engineers in a Spanish-speaking country

This position is available immediately for 4-6 months.  Full-time is preferred, but part time will be considered for students. This is a paid internship with no benefits provided.
