The Economics of Climate Change, Energy and Transport Unit has a vacancy for a transport policy analyst with strong analytical skills, preferably with experience in transport modelling. The successful candidate will form part of a multidisciplinary team which carries out impact assessment analyses for transport policy measures at EU level.
The work involves the definition of research questions and the development of research methodologies, the collection of transport data and statistics, the development and application of transport models and the preparation of reports for policy makers. The research and policy support activities cover all transport modes and address economic, environmental and societal issues. The range of policies analysed includes technological, organisational, legislative and financial measures. The job requires frequent communication with policy makers and external collaborators, both in written and verbal form.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated research or policy support experience in any transport mode and a good understanding of the policy making process and the issues that influence it at EU level. Experience in government, industry or policy consulting will be appreciated.
He/she should have should have an educational background in engineering, economics, environment, geography, mathematics or relevant subjects. Experience in policy impact assessment and evaluation methodologies, including CBA and MCA is necessary. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree or having fulfilled all the obligations to obtain a PhD (certified by the university) or having a minimum of 5 years research experience after the first university degree giving access to doctoral studies (which may include periods of training such as a masters degree) in a field relevant to the JRC's scientific activities.
A very good level of written and spoken English is essential and knowledge of at least one other EU language is compulsory.
