Location:  Curitiba, Brazil or Boston, MA

Role Description

The objective of this role is to deliver a powerful, integrated research and learning online program for use across an Earthwatch region; which advances mission objectives, makes best use of resources and meets or exceeds customer expectations.

You will need to work across the matrix: working with the community of online learning practitioners and working collaboratively with other parts of Earthwatch within your region to achieve results and deliver inspiring and impactful online programs.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Coordinate, design and upload online program content updates, to include global and regional research updates, learning updates, participant stories, newsfeeds etc
  • Implement delivery of online research and learning program in region.  This will include global online, learning, research content and resources 
  • Provide online learning expertise and internal training to use the online program within region
  • Set up and manage regional calendar of events, including on-line events, webinars, guest speakers, podcasts, live communications from the field etc
  • Manage delivery of field program pre-work, including guidance and support for participants
  • Provide support to participants to use online program, including online citizen science programs, blogging and video diaries, LFF etc
  • Set up, facilitate and monitor online  discussion forums and communities
  • Identify and capture case studies and participant stories to include in learning evaluation and communication
  • Manage relationships with regional stakeholders, including funder IT and external partners as relevant
  • Share experiences, resources, best practices with other online SMEs and global Earthwatch online and learning communities.

Key Relationships and Interface

A key requirement of this role is the effective collaboration with other parts of the organization across functions and regions, funders and external contractors.

  • Key collaboration with Global Online Manager to provide support to implement program in line with global frameworks, provide technical learning support to develop regional online content and activities, and to ensure flow of learning impact information, stories and case studies between Earthwatch and participants
  • Key relationship with Regional Program Managers to align regional online program implementation and development with grant deliverables and resources
  • Develop key relationships; providing flow of stories, case studies and updates between Earthwatch and participants
  • Key relationship with Online Translation Manager to ensure smooth rollout of online program in regional languages as relevant
  • Interface with participants engaging in and using online program
  • Interface with regional external partners and stakeholders as relevant.

Experience and Technical Skill Requirements

  • You have worked with online technologies, having familiarity with a wide range of different software packages and using Content Management Systems to upload
  • You have designed and delivered a range of online learning and communications materials, activities and events, including working with research, learning and communication to originate content
  • You have provided virtual tutoring and support to program participants, including moderating online discussions

You should have:

  • An understanding of the principles of effective e-learning design, online learning theory and blended learning theory (i.e. how online tools are used to support / enhance experiential learning)
  • A high level of comfort and flexibility working in a online environment
  • An ability to communicate with and develop good relationships at all levels, presenting information in varying degrees of technicality/ detail as the audience dictates
  • Strong inter-personal skills and the confidence to negotiate with and manage suppliers
  • Flexible and pragmatic in approach
  • 2-5 years experience
  • Fluency is required (both spoken and written) in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
