SONATI is a Nicaraguan non-profit environmental organization. We carry out FREE environmental education activities for thousands of local school children; these activities are financed though SONATI´s hostel and tours.

We are looking for a professional person to be responsible for all aspects of coordinating the tours we do in Leon; most of the tours are outdoor treks.

Requirements:

  • Love and passion for nature and treks.
  • Experience in guiding treks.
  • Marketing and administration skills.
  • Professional, energetic and creative.
  • Good inter-personal relations.
  • Able to manage a team of guides and train new guides.
  • Good Spanish and English.
  • Identify with the mission of SONATI and environment
  • Must be flexible, self motivated, customer service oriented, resourceful and be able to solve problems
  • The tour coordinator needs to be creative and come with ideas for expanding and improving the tours.

Responsibilities:

  • The tour coordinator is responsible for all aspects of tours, inclding but no limited to daily operations, planning, finances and marketing
  • Coordinate and market the tours, both in Leon and online
  • Schedule all staff/volunteers and tours including tour reservations and walk ins
  • Expand the tours to appeal to a more diverse public than our current offerings to mainly backpackers (i.e: more luxury tourists and national publics alike). This includes starting new tours.
  • Manage and train a team of guides, mostly international volunteers.
  • Find and train new volunteer guides.
  • Maintain and purchase new equipment as needed
  • Oversee finances, track client statistics and prepare monthly reports.
  • Ensuring quality and consistency of tours
  • Talking with clients about tours and solving problems
  • Keeping tour information updated and distributing tour information

Other skills (not required but helpful):

  • Experience living in Central America or knowing the culture
  • Marketing and publicity skills or ideas and website design
  • Experience in tourism
  • Experience in cooking meals for clients
  • Experience or resourcefulness in fixing and repairing equipment
  • Small business or entrepreneurial skills
  • Training skills

The work involves both office and outdoor work.

When to start: Beginning of April.

Time commitment: at least one year.

Payment: SONATI salaries are always local salaries, in this case of $200/ month. For westerners it is practically a paid volunteering work. The work can be very challenging but very rewarding. Sonati provides training on the local flora and fauna.

Free accommodation is available.
