We are seeking a programming assistant to provide administrative support to national projects at Evergreen Brick Works and across the GTA this summer.  Successful candidates must be under 30 years of age, full-time post secondary students in the previous academic year and returning to school in fall 2012, and legally entitled to work in Canada.  Priority will be given to applicants living in communities neighbouring Evergreen Brick Works including St James Town, Thorncliffe Park, Flemingdon Park, Regent Park, O’Connor etc.

Reporting to members of the National Programs team, you will:
• Assist staff in delivering on-going gardening (native plants and food),  healthy nutrition,  and active recreation programs;
• Participate in planning and coordination of community events and projects (i.e. stewardship events, community festivals and public greening events);
• Coordinating administrative tasks including participant sign-in, record-keeping, photo documentation and project tracking;
• Research and develop resources, fact sheets, outreach materials, contracts, and reports;
• Assist in educating the public in urban ecology, stewardship, and active transportation;
• Assist in facilitating public events, plantings and workshops, including:
o Assisting with set-up, clean-up, and smooth delivery of programming and evaluation;
o Educating the public in topics including native plant stewardship, food gardening and active transportation
 

You have:
• Interest, education, and experience in urban ecology (food and native plant gardening), health and nutrition, and/or active recreation programming;
• A passion for social justice and environmental sustainability;
• An ability to guide children, youth, and diverse members of the public in group activities and discussions;
• Comfort working with individuals of different ages, cultures, backgrounds, and abilities
• Excellent administrative and communication skills;
• A flexible schedule, including the ability to work some evenings and weekends
