Essex Wildlife Trust is the county’s leading conservation charity. It has more than 37,000 members, manages and protects over 8,400 acres of land on 87 nature reserves and 2 nature parks and runs 11 visitor centres. The aim of Essex Wildlife Trust is to Protect Wildlife for the Future and for the People of Essex. It is supported financially by members, local businesses and grant making organisations. It is one of the largest of the 47 county wildlife trusts that work together throughout the British Isles as The Wildlife Trusts.
We have an exciting opportunity at Tollesbury for a Sites Warden. The post holder will manage 242 ha’s of wonderful Essex coastal grazing marsh at Tollesbury Wick, home to thousands of wintering and breeding wildfowl and waders. They will also oversee the management of the surrounding nature reserves of Chigborough Lakes, the flower rich grassland at Oxley Meadows, Maldon Wick, the semi-natural ancient woodlands at Shut Heath Wood and the exposed cockle shell bank at Bradwell Cockle spit which boasts a wide range of habitats. The post holder will be required to have the enthusiasm, skill and knowledge to enhance and improve the sites not only for wildlife but also for an increasing number of visitors.
Responsibilities will include data collection, habitat management, livestock management, machinery maintenance and the line management of a Livestock Officer and a team of committed volunteers, whilst also ensuring that the Tollesbury sites are safe place to work and visit.

The successful applicant will work 37.5 hours per week across Monday to Friday but will be expected to work on a weekend rota two weekends in four to cover livestock checks.
