The Green Life (www.thegreenlifeonline.org) helps the growing number of environmentally aware, health conscious Americans make informed lifestyle decisions. Through education, outreach and advocacy, we support a consumer-driven movement toward sustainable consumption, while guarding against corporate greenwashing. We run media campaigns, write and distribute consumer reports, and research and maintain a comprehensive guide to living green – the Guide to the Green Life.

The Green Life has its roots in Earth Day 1990.  Earth Day’s 20th anniversary in 1990 drew a record 200 million participants in 141 countries. It came at a peak of environmental interest in the country, when books such as 50 Things You Can Do to Save the Earth and Hints for a Healthy Planet were bestsellers, and one out of every four new products released at the time were labeled "recyclable," "biodegradable," "compostable" or "ozone friendly."     The Green Life has worked for twenty years to help consumers keep the Earth Day spirit alive.

The Coordinator will carry out the following responsibilities:

Research and Publications:  Create online content, including consumer resources and tips on green living.    Develop and write a quarterly newsletter for supporters of the organization; produce research reports to help consumers lead more green lifestyles such as the Don’t Be Fooled Report, which exposes corporate greenwashers;   send out monthly action alerts on key environmental issues; create fact sheets for member and volunteer recruitment campaigns; and create other resource materials for Earth Day activists.

Communications and Outreach:    Develop and implement a marketing strategy to identify supporters for the organization through outreach to traditional and online media sources. Also build support among sustainable business leaders, environmental organization leaders, and other environmental activists.

Fundraising:   Through all of the above outreach, build a grassroots membership on and off-line and raise money from foundations and large donors.

Administration:  Manage corporate financial, legal, and other organizational maintenance operations

Location: Preference: Los Angeles, CA; Possibly: Denver, CO; Boston, MA; or Philadelphia, PA.

Qualifications: Two years of professional experience in grassroots organizing, organization building, and/or campaign politics.

  • Ability to work quickly, creatively, and independently, both proactively and in response to current events.
