The Forester will work closely with the TFT team in Brazil to manage a variety of clients and will be responsible for the implementation of the workplans and other projects in the field.
A key project that the forester's work will focus on is the EU funded Timber Trade Action Plan (TTAP), a private sector initiative developed by the Timber Trade Federations (TTF) of the UK, Netherlands, Belgium and France in response to the growing awareness of illegal logging. The project aims to assist the members of these and other EU TTFs achieve legally verified product throughout their supply chains originating from TTAP partner producer countries.
The project contributes to the EU's Action Plan against illegal logging by securing legal timber and the forester will play a significant role in helping the industry meet these requirements as well as being an important step towards sustainability. for Visit the website for more information on TTAP.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- Undertake initial meetings and scoping visits with potential partner companies (TTAP & TFT) to analyse their supply chains and identify the principal companies to work with;
- Carry out evaluations of selected companies in the supply chain (forest, sawmill & factory) to identify areas in management and operations that require improvement to pass a legality/sustainability audit;
- Develop action plans to provide solutions to implement robust Chain of Custody (CoC) systems and other elements to achieve legality/sustainability certification.
- Assist companies through training and implementation of the action plans in preparation of a legality / sustainability audit.
In addition to the field work, the forester will be responsible for report writing to provide feedback and advice on clients and project partners, engage in business development activities to bring in new clients for TFT as well as undertake general administrative tasks as and when required.
