Description

We are looking for a science officer to join our team to coordinate and manage the terrestrial research projects as well as assist as needed with the other projects that run from The Madagascar Research and Conservation Institute (MRCI) base on Nosy Komba, Madagascar. MRCI is a government approved institute undertaking environmental research for and on behalf of the Malagasy Government and our partners. 

The main responsibility of this position is volunteer management and training, motivating volunteers and promoting a fun and enthusiastic environment on base.  Staff must follow and enforce all of MRCI's Health and Safety regulations and project protocols. It is important to note that staff will interact socially with volunteers both on and off surveys and at all times on base, therefore there are no strict working hours.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of BSc in a related field as well as proven experience in planning and conducting terrestrial research methods. It is important that the candidate is able to develop and manage the projects effectively as well as develop and maintain good working relationships with our partners. Current biological projects include; research into species such as chameleons, lemurs, frogs, birds and snakes which are found in in the forests on Nosy Komba and surrounding islands. 

All staff will be expected to participate in all aspects to ensure the safe and efficient running the programs. This will include; co-ordinating and picking up volunteers, logistics, data entry and analysis, food and supply shopping. It is therefore essential that staff can adapt quickly, are well organised, motivated and have fantastic management skills.

 

Start date; March 2014
