The NREL Computational Sciences Center has an immediate temporary opening for a Computational Scientist with emphasis on scientific and technical data management, data analysis, informatics and data mining. These activities will support on going research in Solar, Wind and Bioenergy. The focus of this research lies at the intersection of applied fields – material science, chemistry and biology – and statistics, mathematics, and computing with the overall objective of developing and applying computational and statistical techniques that will help provide insight through an integration of results from experimental techniques and computational models. The initial appointment is for 6 months.
The successful candidate will participate in research in the application of informatics and data mining in support of solar energy and bioenergy applications working with scientists to understand the scientific process, data analysis and informatics needs. Improve data management capabilities based on experience and knowledge of integrating synthesis, characterization and performance data. Apply state-of-the-art statistical and data mining techniques to experimental data to aid application researchers in drawing maximal meaning from data. Evaluate and communicate results through written research reports for publication and presentations at seminars. Participate in group meetings and seminars. Assist with developing grant proposals for new research directions.
Relevant PhD or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Demonstrates complete understanding and wide application of scientific technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.

Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Very good technical writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of characterization and performance data concerning solar energy data for integration into scientific data management systems.
