Description

Job Title: Temporary Program Assistant, Environmental Law Program

Department: Conservation

Reports To: Regional Staff Director

Duration: This is temporary position for approximately four months.

Context:  Provides program, issue and administrative support functions for public education, legislative and political programs.

Scope: Works with professional staff in, editing, writing, researching, and coordinating functions. Helps implement issue campaigns.  Performs extensive and substantive contact with leaders of the Sierra Club and other environmental organizations, field staff, volunteers, congressional/administration staff, media and the general public.  Handles recordkeeping, filing, and distribution requests.

Job Activities:

1. Program Assistant assists in:

  • Development and implementation of public education and outreach efforts.
  • Legal or factual research for legal matters as assigned.
  • Educational outreach to grassroots.
  • Production and research for issue materials.

2. Provides administrative support for office as assigned by supervisor.

3. Keeps leaders up to date on current happenings and information regarding their issues.  Communicates with issue and steering committee volunteer leaders and staff; coordinates conference calls and meetings; prepares and distributes issue materials.

4. Prepares background materials for legal staff.

5. Maintains and updates appropriate information and organizational lists as required.  This could include media, legislative and administration databases.

6. Performs miscellaneous duties as required.

Knowledge & Skills:

-- Demonstrated commitment to environmental protection

-- Excellent writing and editing skills

-- Strong verbal communication and presentation skills

-- Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively in fast paced office.

-- Ability to interact cooperatively and effectively with public, staff and volunteers.

-- Proficient in computers and word processing experience.
