Purpose

The purpose of the New Media Unit is to increase Greenpeace Mediterranean’s (GPMed) profile and to engage individuals via online activities and our printed newsletter.

The position purpose is to assist in updating GPMed websites (html, css, photoshop design), developing, targeting and delivering viral online messaging, online actions (petitions, letter writing and other online tools) and other methods of online mass mobilisation.

The position provides new media support to GPMed’s three offices: Istanbul, Tel Aviv and Beirut.

Responsibilities

1. Web

  • Post content on the web
  • Edit or adjust photographs and videos for the web
  • Design and develop new web pages
  • Produce web banners for marketing campaigns
  • Develop other web based tools (eg petitions, letter writing, facebook apps etc) as required

2. Email and SMS Coordination

  • Manage the list of email and SMS subscribers
  • Assist in segmentation and targeting of various email and SMS responses
  • Assist in designing and writing email and SMS messaging

3. Participation in Fundraising Department

  • As a member of the Fundraising Department, maintain a high commitment to Greenpeace values and meeting campaign goals.
  • Contribute to the development and effectiveness of GP Med’s Fundraising Department and GP Med as a whole. This includes: implementing Unit strategies, policies and plans; addressing issues; and supporting and communicating decisions taken by New Media Coordinator, Department Directors, the Executive Director and the Board.
  • Maintain productive and effective working relationship with other Fundraising Department colleagues, and keep informed of current best online practices in other Greenpeace Fundraising departments
  • Perform other responsibilities as may be assigned by New Media Coordinator.

Skills and Qualifications

Online

  • Studies in Web Design, Marketing or related field
  • Experience with Photoshop, Flash or related programs
  • Excellent understanding and experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript
  • Other internet programming languages an advantage
  • Experience with online marketing or social networking
  • Database experience an advantage

Communication

  • Excellent written and telephone communication skills in English (Turkish fluency is a definite advantage)
  • Experience in working in a team environment.
