SSE is one of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK. We own the electricity transmission network and own and operate the distribution network across the North of Scotland, and are responsible for maintaining, repairing and upgrading these networks.

As part of SSE, the Corporate Major Projects division is a focused delivery group that is delivering a wide range of construction projects within the UK.  You will work as part of a team supporting a number of major transmission projects in Scotland.

As the Health and Safety Manager, you will be responsible for taking a pro-active approach to establish and implement systems and procedures, ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation.  You will actively promote the Company’s safety culture throughout the project teams and site contractors.

Key duties and responsibilities of the role include:

  • Implementing policy and delivering high quality health and safety advice to the  project
  • Carrying out method statement and risk assessment reviews on the project to ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and Company requirements
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining a health and safety audit programme for the project
  • Auditing the Project Contractor's health and safety systems and procedures
  • Assisting the project contractor with the delivery of monthly reporting on key health and safety performance indicators
  • Carrying out investigations, ensuring that appropriate reporting and remedial action is taken

The successful candidate will:

  • Possess a recognised qualification in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Have experience of working within a health and safety role in the utility industry or an asset intensive engineering environment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the design and construction of major construction sites and associated legislative requirements and standards
  • Have well developed negotiation, presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Take a proactive approach to problem solving
  • Have the ability to cope with a wide range of challenging deliverables in a demanding environment
  • Have the ability to respond to short-term demands effectively and in a timely manner
