The North Pennines AONB Partnership and Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority are looking for two experienced people to deliver the nature recovery strands of a ground-breaking nature recovery and engagement programme, Tees-Swale – naturally connected. After three years in development, this National Lottery Heritage Fund supported programme is now ready to start making things happen on the ground.
‘Tees-Swale’ covers nearly 850km2 of outstanding Protected Landscape. The Tees Swale staff with the AONB and National Park teams are supported by a programme Board, chaired by Sir John Lawton. We aim to demonstrate how — by working in tandem with our High Nature Value farmers in particular — we can conserve, restore, expand and connect priority habitats on an unprecedented scale; at the same time, this work will deliver multiple other public benefits including climate change mitigation, flood-risk management and increasing people’s well-being.
If you want to make a real difference for nature recovery in the farmed landscape, connecting-up conservation measures over 300 farms, working closely with farmers and land managers, and if you have the direct experience and knowledge to back this up, we’d like to hear from you.
One post (employed by Durham County Council on behalf of the North Pennines AONB Partnership), will be based in Stanhope, in County Durham; the other will be based in Bainbridge, North Yorkshire, employed by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. Please state on the application form if you have a preference for working in the Yorkshire Dales or the North Pennines.
Applicants should be educated to degree level, ideally in a conservation, environmental or heritage management related subject, have empathy with farmers and farming, and substantial experience of successfully engaging the farming community in conservation.
