A Sturgeon Program Aquaculture Technician must be able to work as part of a team that operates a commercial demonstration sturgeon project located at the Mote Aquaculture Park, Sarasota, Florida. Duties for this person will include but not be limited to the following:

  •  assisting with all aspects of fish husbandry including feeding, fish grading, fish movement, water quality monitoring and fish inventory control.
  • maintaining facility sanitation including system upkeep, tank cleaning and equipment  pressure washing.
  • assisting with plumbing, carpentry, and other aspects of system fabrication and maintenance..
  • working in both an indoor and outdoor environments including working in rain and hot sun
  • working safely and adhering to all safety regulations.
  • working with computers, computer spreadsheets and word processing programs.

Must enjoy working in a rural environment and not mind getting wet/dirty.

This position requires a valid Florida Drivers license.

This job requires the physical ability to lift 50 lbs to shoulder height, walk/work on uneven surfaces, bend and stoop for prolong periods of time.

Working hours for this position are generally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with 1 hour for lunch. This position will require working on a weekend rotation with other staff members. This schedule may vary depending on the needs of the animals and the facilities. Longer hours may be required.

 BS or AA degree in Aquaculture or Fisheries preferred.

 Must be eligible to work in the United States
