The Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) is Australia's tropical marine research agency with a mission to deliver world class research for the sustainable development, conservation, and management of tropical marine resources and environments.

The Institute has world-class laboratory facilities in Townsville Queensland, Perth Western Australia, and Darwin Northern Territory, two modern research vessels and extensive technical support.

Our people deliver innovative research in water quality, tropical marine biodiversity, climate change and marine microbiology. 

An opportunity has been created at our main research facility in Townsville, Queensland for an experienced technical officer to provide key support to a team of scientists involved in coral microbiology, virology and genetics/genomics as well as assist in the operation of the PC2 microbiology laboratory.

This role will work closely with our senior team to isolate and preserve marine microorganisms for coral microbiology and virology research as well as prepare DNA and RNA extractions from corals and other marine organisms for further analysis. 

The ideal applicant will be a recent science graduate with excellent molecular biology skills, demonstrated experience working in a PC2 laboratory and familiarity with calibration and the use of general laboratory equipment. 

Attractive working conditions apply including a commencing salary of $59,278 - $74,314 plus 15.4% superannuation, generous leave, commuter car travel and many other benefits.  This opportunity will initially be offered for a fixed term period of three years.
