Salary: £24,530 - £25,821 (pro rata)
Fixed term contract/Assignment for 12 months
The role
We’re looking for someone to join the Fisheries and Biodiversity team in North and East Yorkshire to help maintain, improve and develop the area's fisheries. Taking a lead in a geographical area, your role is essential in influencing effective management of fisheries in this area. By identifying opportunities for improvement & engaging with internal and external stakeholders, you'll make a difference by improving the ecological status of our rivers, streams and still waters for the benefit of wildlife and angling.
The team The Fisheries and Biodiversity team provides technical advice and guidance both internally and externally, guided by our statutory responsibilities for fisheries and biodiversity protection, improvement and regulation. The role involves a mix of office and field based tasks with the team undertaking field work in support of investigations, enforcement, incident response and advisory visits. Experience/skills required We're seeking a fisheries officer with technical understanding and field experience. You’ll be qualified to at least degree standard (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and have experience of using your knowledge and expertise to influence decision-makers, operators and partners. To do that you’ll possess: • excellent verbal and written communication skills; • knowledge of current fisheries issues, environmental legislation and Environment Agency policies relating to fisheries; • a good understanding of technical fisheries issues, particularly fish passage, assessing the impact of hydropower on fish and developing options for mitigation; • experience of developing and delivering partnership projects; • an understanding of the planning process, planning legislation and policies and the potential to impact upon fisheries. Additional useful information The role will be office based with regular field work and site visits across the area. As a result the post requires a full UK driving licence.
