Research & Policy Solutions

Ecos is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Advantage IQ, a leader in Energy Management solutions. The Research and Policy team identifies technologies that save energy, develops standardized test procedures for those products, and assists government agencies, companies, and utilities in developing energy efficiency specifications. It also designs programs to accelerate market adoption of the most energy efficient products.

Ecos is an ideal work environment for individuals who want to have a decisive impact on climate change, air quality, energy security and other national policy priorities through market-based approaches. The work is diverse, fast-paced, and collaborative, allowing motivated employees to advance rapidly while developing their own skills and capabilities.

Ecos is seeking to fill a Technical Director position in the Durango, Colorado office, or Portland, Oregon office.  In this position, you will be responsible for delivery of innovative research reports, technical and policy guidance, client and stakeholder interaction, and business development in support of the organization’s goals to grow, and achieve world-class customer satisfaction.

Role Description

In the Technical Director role, you will serve as principle investigator (PI) in at least one research area for R&P. You will advise associates and clients, who will place a high degree of reliance on your scientific/policy interpretations and recommendations. You will prepare written reports, make presentations to Ecos clients, provide technical guidance on client proposals and RFPs and represent Ecos in public forums.  In this role, you will lead research and instrumentation plans for lab and field-based measurements, and leverage industry contacts to develop mechanical or electrical energy efficient prototypes that utilize best-in-class technologies from efficient component suppliers.

You will lead the development of energy efficiency test procedures that become the foundation of state, national acand international policy, and pursue internally-funded projects of your own interest and design that support business goals and objectives.  You will translate technical findings into terms understandable to an educated, but non-technical, audience.  You will interface with manufacturers, utilities, environmental advocates, government officials, and other stakeholders in public policy processes to share the technical outcomes of Ecos’ research.

You will create visuals that effectively communicate data and conclusions, write reports detailing specific technical elements that support policy actions, and give highly visual presentations of research findings.  You will share your findings and further ideas both with international colleagues at conferences and meetings as well as with internal Ecos audiences, spearheading Ecos’ efforts to be a thought leader.  You will provide technical expertise and market analysis to management to enable Ecos’ strategic decision-making, and possibly manage direct reports that may include first-level managers.

Role Competencies

As our ideal candidate, you should possess a bachelor's or master’s degree in engineering, energy management or related area of specialty.  You will have 15 or more years of experience in energy efficiency policy, electronic products development or testing, engineering, or renewable energy.  You will have extensive experience analyzing energy use, energy efficiency, carbon mitigation or other energy management experience.  Ideally, you will have advanced knowledge of energy efficiency, electronic circuitry and design, applicable codes and standards.  You will be able to independently lead and win large accounts, manage complex or difficult clients and projects, and manage multiple similar programs for different clients with parallel delivery teams.  You will be able to work independently and think both tactically and strategically. You will be expected to work with a wide degree of creativity and latitude. You will have excellent presentation skills and ability to educate peers and clients.
