Our client, a leading consultancy, is currently looking to appoint a new Technical Director to head up the Environment team in their London or Guildford office.

The Job

This vacancy is based in either our London or Guildford Offices and you will be part of the Environmental Assessment Team, which undertakes a broad range of environmental assessment projects, including environmental impact assessments, strategic environmental assessments, construction management and other environmental advice, for a mixture of private and public sector clients.

Current projects include environmental work on high profile infrastructure and land development projects such as the M4 J3-12 Smart Motorway Scheme, Silvertown Tunnel, Bicester EcoTown, the Thames Tideway Tunnel, frameworks with the London Legacy Development Corporation, Transport for London, and National Grid. Hyder also has an extensive portfolio of SEA/SA experience including local authority Local Development Frameworks, transport plans, water resources plans, waste strategies and National Policy Statements.

Qualifications

Requirements:

We are seeking to locate a high calibre Technical Director, to be based from either our London or Guildford office, to take a key role in the Environmental Business, providing technical, commercial and business development leadership. You will have an excellent professional profile and existing relationships with clients and stakeholders (with a focus on London and the South East), and to use this and your technical knowledge to identify and realise new client opportunities and to provide technical input into the bidding process. You would also take an active role in the technical development of staff, coaching and mentoring on technical issues and assisting with chartered institute membership. To be considered for a role we are seeking candidates with the following credentials:

Minimum Academic Qualifications:

•You will hold a relevant Degree
•Full member of IEMA
•Chartered Environmentalist
•Desirable Academic Qualifications:
•A second degree in a relevant subject

Essential Experience:

•Detailed knowledge of environmental principles and a thorough understanding of a range of technical environmental disciplines.
•In-depth knowledge of EIA processes and relevant UK legislation across a range of sectors is essential
•Experience of all stages of the consenting process, including expert witness experience
•Excellent Commercial and Project Management skills
•Proven ability in team leading / management
•Evidence of excellent client and stakeholder relationships and ability to develop new relationships and workstreams

Duties & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Business Director for Environment, you will be accountable for the control, coordination and completion of assigned tasks and projects within the Business Unit or project team. As we operate in such a diverse marketplace, we can safely say that you will gain an experience of working on a wide and varied portfolio of projects which will enhance your skills and test your technical knowledge.

You will be responsible for leading and managing the delivery of projects to meet time, budgetary and QHSE targets, managing all aspects of the client relationship so that delivery exceeds client expectations, taking a leadership role with the project team, providing both direction and technical advice and leading by example where appropriate and to promote both the regional and global culture of the business. You will also be responsible for supporting the commercial performance of the Environmental team, and in the development of new work streams.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

•Manage projects (particularly budgets and cashflow); attend meetings and provide advice to clients; manage bid production
•Responsibility for technical quality / approval of project deliverables
•Provide advice on environmental issues, at an in-depth level within own area of expertise, but also on a broad range of issues
•Performance management of assigned team members and provide training to staff
•Contribute to relevant research and the development of best practice
•Managing budgets and production of bids
•Support to the Business Director for Environment on the overall commercial performance of the Environmental team
•Support to the Business Director for Environment on the development of new work streams and client relationships
