ONF International (ONFI), is a consulting firm and subsidiary of the French National Forestry Office
(ONF). ONFI has more than 10 years experience in the field of natural resource management,
particularly forestry based. It has representations in Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia, working
in the fields of forestry expertise, management of natural resources, protected areas, bio-energy,
strengthening institutional capacity in environment and climate change mitigation
(afforestation/reforestation CDM, REDD +).

Specifically, ONF International works in supporting transnational cooperation between countries of the
Guiana Shield on the topic of avoided greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and forest
degradation (REDD +) and maintaining or increasing carbon stocks in forests.

A “REDD + plateau Guyana" programme carried out by ONF International and the Regional Direction
of ONF in Guyana, has the objective of strengthening the position of French Guiana, Surinam, Guyana
and Amapa on REDD +. The activities aim to:
• Strengthen and harmonize the skills of forestry services of these countries on the topic of REDD
+, valuing knowledge and know-how. More specifically the following: systems for monitoring
forest carbon stocks, scenarios for greenhouse gas emissions and financial mechanisms to
develop these emission reductions;
• Encouraging the development of an institutional dialogue across the Guyana Shield, based on
these forest services;
• Developing REDD + pilot actions inspired in French Guiana and REDD + for the remainder of
the Guiana Plateau.
This programme is financially supported by the French Global Environment Facility (FFEM) and
