The Pembina Institute is seeking a highly motivated individual to join its Alberta team as a Technical and Policy Analyst to undertake research and develop and advocate for solutions that address the key environmental issues surrounding fossil fuel energy development in Alberta. We are seeking a driven and resourceful person with minimum of three years of relevant technical experience, strong analytical skills, relevant energy/environment experience, a solid work ethic and the tenacity needed to solve Alberta’s most prominent energy challenges. The incumbent would support the Institute’s research and advocacy related to oilsands, oil and gas and fossil fuel electricity sectors. The candidate should have proven project experience and the ability to thrive with limited supervision. This full time (40 hours a week) position may require travel and overtime.

While this job posting is aimed at individuals who have between three and eight years of relevant experience we are also interested in hearing from applicants who would fall outside this range. We are open to challenging our preconceptions of this role to accommodate the right person.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead research projects from inception to delivery
  • Conduct thorough technical, quantitative and qualitative analyses of environmental impacts of oilsands, unconventional oil and gas and fossil-fuel-based electricity sectors
  • Critically review analysis of peers and collaborate with the various internal teams at Pembina
  • Conduct high-quality literature research
  • Work with external subject matter experts
  • Create high-quality project deliverables, including reports, presentations, Excel models
  • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with other ENGOS, First Nations, the private sector, and governments
  • Cultivate relationships with individuals who have the power to influence decision makers.
  • Represent the Pembina Institute’s views at meetings and presentations, and to the media
  • Cultivate relationships with individuals who have the power to influence decision makers
  • Persuasively advocate solutions to key environmental issues and be a strong and effective critic when necessary
  • Support and/or lead negotiations with other stakeholders and the Government to Alberta
