Technical Advisor Adaption to Climate Change and Integrated Knowledge Management
Country of assignment and location Fiji, Suva Project / Field of activity The German Pacific regional programme „Adaptation to Climate Change in the Pacific Island Region“ aims to build and strengthen the capacities of Pacific member countries and regional organizations, to adapt to, and mitigate climate change with regard to land-based natural resources. The project will be based with the Secretariat of the Pacific Community - Land Resources Division (SPC-LRD) in Suva, Fiji and will focus activities in three countries, namely, Fiji, Vanuatu, and Tonga. Strengthenig SPC-LRD as a regional knowledge hub and advisory body regarding climate change is one main focus of the programme. In Tonga and Vanuatu, existing strategies and policies on land use planning, agriculture and forestry is to be mainstreamed and subsequently implemented through pilot model areas. In Fiji, the programme will focus on the possibilities to link the Fijian forestry sector to the international carbon market through certificates for avoided deforestation. Responsibilities Overall task: provide technical assistance to main stakeholders of the program in order to build and strengthen capacities in regard to integration of adaptation to climate change in sustainable management of (land based) natural resources. Main specific tasks: - Provided technical assistance to SPC-LRD regarding integrated knowledge management of climate change issues (adaptation and mitigation) and the development of specific information and extension services regarding climate change. - Assisting SPC-LRD in establishing regional networking and liaising with other CROP agencies or regional institutions, national governments and local communities as well as with research organisations in the region is an essential task. - Provide technical assistance to SPC-LRD and stakeholders in Fiji regarding international carbon market and avoided deforestation. - Contribute to process oriented integration of adaptation to climate change into policies and strategies in member countries - Contribute to project monitoring, short term consultancies and other management tasks.
Qualifications You have a university degree in forestry, agriculture, agroforestry, land use planning, environment, social science or similar disciplines. You have sound experiences and knowledge in climate change (adaptation/mitigation), environmental policy and management of natural resources. Your sector related competencies corresponds to the current international level, your working experience stems mainly from the Asian-Pacific region. You have excellent communication skills and you should possess a persuasive as well as a diplomatic attitude. You are able to integrate easily in a complex context due to your competent attitude and your proficient team spirit. You are capable to self reflexion and you strive for excellence.
