Introduction

My client has an exciting opportunity for a Team Leader to join their Rivers, Deltas & Coasts team in Birmingham. You will be responsible for motivating, leading and growing a small team of engineers and consultants.

The Job

My client is looking for an experienced Team Leader who will provide technical support to engineering graduates and promote a strong bid and project management culture within the team. Other responsibilities will include assisting the Advisory Group Director in developing new business and growing the team to ensure its sustainable future.

They envisage the team growing to 15 strong and being active within the flood risk assessment and flood risk management markets, serving a mixture of public and private clients.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

•Ensure team deliverables are provided to a high quality and on time to meet clients’ requirements
•Manage the team’s financial project results by optimising resources, reducing working capital, ensuring effective project management (including change control), in conjunction with the Director
•Support the Advice Group business plan including assistance with budget control and implementation of its objectives for staff, turnover, margin and markets
•Support the AGD in preparing, reviewing and submitting proposals
•Be involved in staff development to motivate, coach, assess and develop staff
•Promote team-working (including with other offices and Business lines) and engender a positive working atmosphere
•Manage medium to large and complex projects, delivering them to clients on time and to budget
•Provide technical inputs to a range of river, estuary and coastal projects
•Carry out any duties which your line manager may reasonably request within the broad parameters of your role.

•Analytical skills to assess performance and develop strategies
•Solution oriented with a “can-do” attitude
•Technical expert to mentor a young and developing team and solve a wide range of engineering challenges
•Effective planning and organising skills to respond quickly to change
•Entrepreneurial approach to develop new markets and maximise existing ones
•Focussed on customers’ needs whilst being sensitive to the company’s needs
•Strong communication skills including excellent report and bid writing skills

Qualifications and Experience:
•Relevant experience at Principal level or above
•Significant, relevant experience of running, developing and growing teams
•Experience of working effectively with clients, building relationships and exploiting opportunities
•You will possess a Bachelors or Masters Degree in appropriate technical discipline (or have an equivalent level qualification)
•Project delivery experience
•You will be a Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with a detailed awareness of industry procedures and best practice
•You will possess an excellent managerial, commercial and technical track record; and be confident in your dealings with staff and clients alike
