Project / Field of activity

 

It is anticipated that the Team Leader will be responsible for managing a multi-disciplinary project implementation team as part of a program under the Indonesia Australia Forest Carbon Partnership. The TL will cooperate with the program facility manager and provide technical assistance and other support to the Government of Indonesia on forestry and climate change issues for implementation of a REDD demonstration project in central Kalimantan.

 

Responsibilities

 

In close and harmonic cooperation with the facility manager and the Indonesian program director the TL will guide a interdisciplinary team of national and international experts during implementation of the project activities in Central Kalimantan, mainly in the following fields:
- (Community-based peat) forest management, rehabilitation and reforestation,
- Prevention of forest fires
- (Community-based) peat forest conservation
- Community development
- Forest carbon management and monitoring, including fund management
Towards this end, a close cooperation and collaboration with local Governments, communities and the private sector as well as with other donors’ activities in the field is necessary. The role is expected to involve providing strategic direction for local Governments, managing sub-projects throughout various stages of the project cycle, and contributions to high-level liaison.

 

Qualifications

 

- Experience in strategic, project and financial management of similar activities, preferably in an international development context;
- Strong understanding / experience of natural resource management including forestry and climate change issues in the Indonesia context are indispensable;
- Capacity to employ adaptable, flexible and responsive approaches to achieve results in dynamic, challenging or uncertain contexts;
- Strong leadership, HRD, interpersonal, cross-cultural skills and team work skills;
- Monitoring and evaluation;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English;
- Good knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia
- A degree (preferably with post-graduate qualifications) in natural resource management, management or economics or similar field from a recognized university
