Madagascar Research and Conservation Institute (MRCI) are currently looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic team player to join us as our teaching and community coordinator.

 

MRCI is a government approved institute undertaking environmental research as well as educational and community projects in North West Madagascar.

 

The successful applicant must be independently motivated, be able to lead small groups of volunteers, coordinate and build a rapour with the local communities we work within.

It is desirable that the candidate hold the following skills/experience;

  • Experience in developing country/teaching/volunteer projects
  • Proficient in French and/or Malagasy 
  • Ability to coordinate volunteers
  • Manage all teaching and community projects simultaneously
  • Hold a TEFL qualification/ other teaching qualification

MRCI works within schools both on Nosy Komba, teaching English to school children as well as within the local community including the oceanographic research centre on Nosy Be, teaching both children and adults English to provide a basis for better job opportunities. Community projects also run in Nosy Komba and Nosy Be which involve providing support and renovations to well needed areas of the community such as the schools and local attractions which locals rely on for their livelihood. 

The role will also involve assisting with the general running base camp and project volunteer coordination. This is not a 9-5 role so the successful candidate would have to deal with situations at all hours of the day in a professional manner as well as be enthusiastic in all aspects of the role and very self-motivated into developing the projects further.

The position requires a minimum commitment of 6 months with the possibility to extend, to start in July/August 2016.

All meals will be provided when at the Turtle Cove house as well as accommodation and basic expenses. You will need to cover your own pre-departure costs including flights, personal equipment, personal insurance, vaccinations and visas.
