Tanzania: Wildlife conservation volunteering

Volunteers are extremely important to the Kilombero Valley. With you and other like you, we are able to make a difference to the protection of threatened species, the conservation of important areas and the safeguarding of ecosystem services for local livelihood in Tanzania.

Volunteering with Kilombero Valley Ornithological Center will provide you with all kind of new and exciting opportunities. You will learn new skills, meet new people, explore some of the stunning areas we work in and experience something completely removed from your usual routine whilst making a valued contribution to the important work of the local communities.

Duties of volunteers

Assist the research officer with the development and implementation of the research programme.

Volunteers are responsible for collecting and documenting data about local animals and their environments.

Surveying different animal populations and recording human/animals interactions.

Work with local team to patrol different areas and animals tracking.

Other techniques includes: Sherman Trapping, Butterfly sweep netting, Carnivore stations, Habitat structure surveys, Amphibians and reptiles surveys, Large mammals transects and conservation education.

Our volunteers join the project starting: 15th January, 15th July and 15th September each year.

The programme costs 700$ US for one month up to 2100$ US for three (3) months. It will cover services like, camp accommodation, Three meals per day on a project site (7 days per week), Airport pick up, first night hotel accommodation,Internal ground transfer to project camp, project equipments and materials and Kilombero valley ornithological center T-shirt.
