About SIANI
The implementation of effective and successful agricultural development strategies that ensure global food security and sustainable production represents one of the most crucial issues of the 21st century. To contribute to sustainable development in the area of poverty reduction through sustainable agriculture, Sida is launching the Swedish International Agricultural Network Initiative (SIANI). SIANI is envisioned as a multi stakeholder platform for government, civil society, private, research and education sectors to lay the foundation for collective action on concrete, urgent issues in development cooperation in which agriculture plays a vital role.

SIANI as a network will enable dialogue and exchange between communities of practice with a stake in agriculture and development; organize issue based clusters; and synthesise the understanding.  It will also contribute to the implementation of Sweden’s Global Development Policy (PGD), a mechanism to coordinate policy in both the public and private domain, as a means to secure a coherent global development policy for equitable and sustainable development.

SIANI will build on a diversity of national and international stakeholder perspectives; bridging between research, practice and policy, so that controversial issues are addressed in a systemic and integrated manner. The activities implemented under the Secretariat will be guided by the wider SIANI network, SEI, Sida and the network’s Steering Committee, to secure broad ownership, inclusiveness and transparency.
