Position Overview
The Grenada Fund for Conservation and Rare’s International Service Program seek an enthusiastic, intelligent, self-driven, and independent worker with a MBA degree (or comparable experience) to support the sustainability and strategy of two community-driven eco-tourism ventures on the island nation of Grenada in the British West Indies. The Sustainable Tourism Strategy Project Leader is a unique role for an ambitious MBA who wants to contribute his/her expertise to high potential enterprises, Discover Grenada Turtle Tours (DGTT) and Grenada Essentials (GE). The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in small business plan development, commercial sales and marketing strategy, and project management. Read more about these organizations below.

Working closely with the Executive Officer of the Grenada Fund for Conservation, the Project Leader will be responsible for developing positioning and marketing strategies for DGTT and marketing and fundraising materials for both enterprises. Additionally, this person will complete an analysis and strategy to increase the sale and distribution of locally made Grenada Essentials arts/crafts products, both nationally and regionally. This is an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience in locally driven sustainable tourism and business development in a recovering tourism market. This position has potential to be a critical part of the rejuvenation and sustainability of these enterprises in the face of a lagging global economy and tourism industry, and to ensure that profits continue to fund vital conservation projects in Grenada for years to come.

Living in the town of St. George’s, Grenada’s largest city with population near 7,000, and traveling throughout the beautiful and tropical islands of Grenada, this person will experience the nation’s culture of calypso music, creole dishes, and historic plantation estates. Grenada is full of adventure, beautiful beaches, friendly people, and much potential.

  • Create marketing and fundraising materials for potential investors in DGTT

About the Organizations
Established in 2007, Grenada Fund for Conservation, Inc (GFC) is a registered non-governmental organization. It is a successor to Rare’s former Enterprises program, implemented from 2005 to 2008 in Grenada, with financial support from the US-based MacArthur Foundation. The GFC strives to support and implement projects that promote and protect Grenada’s natural resources working in partnership with local, regional and international conservation agencies. Its mission is “To inspire and contribute to the conservation of Grenada’s natural resources, while enabling local communities to benefit from its conservation, through education, advocacy and creation of sustainable jobs”. GFC operates Grenada Essentials and Discover Grenada Turtle Tours, two small scale enterprises that link environmental conservation to tourism, through which it provides sustainable jobs for persons from rural communities who traditionally exploited natural resources in order to meet the their families’ needs. All net profits generated by these enterprises are invested in community-level conservation projects.

Discover Grenada Turtle Tours (DGTT) was established in 2008 and offers specialized tours of leatherback turtle nesting sites lead by local residents, which are designed to ensure safety of the turtles. They work in partnership with an organization that conducts monitoring activities and research at these sites. Grenada is home to the second largest nesting leatherback population in the Caribbean.
