For the Institute's "Sustainable Products & Material Flows Division", we are looking for a

Senior Researcher – Sustainable product policy (m/f/d)

Your tasks:

  • Independent management and acquisition of and participation in research and consulting projects on European and international product and circular economy policy.
  • Focus on policy instruments to increase resource and energy efficiency of products, including eco-design with minimum requirements and ban of hazardous substances, product labelling, extended producer responsibility and green public procurement.
  • Development and assessment of minimum environmental requirements for products and services, derivation of policy recommendations, as well as evaluation and impact assessment of policy instruments.
  • Communication of project results in written (e.g. studies, position papers, articles etc.) and oral form (stakeholder consultations, expert discussions, train-the-trainer workshops, conferences etc.).

Your profile:

  • University degree with a focus on technical, environmental, political or economic sciences
  • Extensive practical experience and knowledge of current developments in European product policy, especially eco-design, product labelling and green public procurement. Good understanding of other policy instruments such as WEEE, RoHS, ELV or REACH is an advantage.
  • Consultancy experience in international cooperation in the field of resource efficiency, environmental or circular economy policy. Work experience in developing and emerging countries is an advantage. Willingness to undertake regular European and non-European business trips is a prerequisite.
  • Independent and self-reliant work, high level of self-organisation, ability to work under pressure, flexibility and ability to work in a team.
  • Proven project management skills - particularly implementation, and the ability to guide project teams in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geography context.
  • Excellent writing and negotiation skills in English and in another official language of the United Nations, German is an advantage.
