Sustainable Living Assistant

Objectives

- Improve meal menus to achieve a balanced vegetarian diet

- Offer education on nutritious vegetarian and low impact diet

- Follow the Food Policy of Sunseed: organic, vegetarian and local 

General Job Description: coordinate the kitchen, meal preparations and the volunteers’ cooking.

Essential:

- Knowledge, Experience and Training in Nutrition (esp. vegan and vegetarian)

- Know what makes a balanced and healthy vegetarian/vegan diet

- Motivation to work with/guide and educate volunteers

- Experience of cooking for 15-40 people.

- Sense of fun and playfulness 

Functions:

- Manage the nutritional and educational board.

- Help, Guide, Advise and Support volunteers and staff in the kitchen

- Coordinate with the gardens.

- Take care of the safe storage of food.

- Offer seminars for volunteers in nutrition and food sovereignty

- Create Information Board for the kitchen: creative, educative and easy to update.

Desired:

Conditions of Employment Conditions of employment for assistant co-ordinators include full board (vegetarian meals) and accommodation in Sunseed houses in Los Molinos. The minimum contract is usually 3 months, with the first month as a trial period. After 3 months, there is a chance for both parties to reaffirm the agreement, if an assistant is still needed. Normal working hours are 35 hours/week, but living on the project involves a commitment that extends far beyond the working day and can include anything from rodding blocked pipes to digging out the irrigation line. You will be entitled to 2 days holiday per month worked plus Spanish bank holidays. EU-resident visitors to the Project are asked to bring an authorised E111 form or equivalent, obtainable from any Post Office, to cover possible local medical attention, and to have up-to-date tetanus jabs. Staff may, if they so wish, obtain additional medical and travel insurance to cover their stay at Sunseed. For information about the departments, please see Our departments in the menu above.
