Description
We live in a resource constrained world where Climate Change is having a direct effect on vulnerable children, undermining their sources of nutritious food, through gradual, insidious changes in temperature and rainfall patterns, and increasing the frequency and intensity of floods and droughts. Increasing population, demands for resources and energy, and financial speculation undermine global efforts towards Hunger Reduction, one of four strategic thematic priorities for Save the Children.

In response to this massive challenge, we are expanding our Policy and Research team as we seek to analyse root cause issues, researching to enable evidence based advocacy on childhood poverty, inequality and children's rights; and our Child Survival campaign with knowledge of the underlying causes of inequality and poverty.

As Sustainable Growth and Climate Change Policy Adviser, you will have the opportunity to generate new research, reports, briefings and other policy materials for Save the Children on issues such as sustainable livelihoods policy, food security, agriculture and the fair and sustainable use of natural resources. You will also work with others in country-level advocacy to achieve change in the policy and practise of key international and national targets.

You will deepen and broaden Save the Children's networks with leaders in academia, think tanks, government, the private sector and the media in addition to representing Save the Children externally - contributing to our objective of being a lead thinking organisation.

An academic qualification at post graduate level or equivalent related to sustainable development is essential as is expert knowledge of sustainable development and other related policy issues. You must have a track record of successful policy research and the ability to analyse complex data. Experience of working at the community level is desirable as is the ability to speak in one or two languages other than English.

In return we offer an opportunity to join an organisation and sector leaders committed to achieving change for the most vulnerable children.
