DEPARTMENT OR PROGRAM SPECIFIC
  • Working in partnership with research centers, extension agencies, public services and departments, and producers associations implement a grazing management strategy that results in an enhancement of key ecological features in the area.
  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of science-based sustainable grazing action planning (CAP or similar) and implementation.
  • Work with Southern Andes Science Coordinator and other appropriate staff and collaborators in the delineation of sustainable grazing standards and protocols, and the development of a long-term monitoring plan.
  • Support philanthropy staff fund-raising activities by conductive field tours to cultivate donors, joining philanthropy staff on donor cultivation trips, and develop grants as needed.
  • Strengthen a creative and productive partnership with local ranchers, producers associations and other key stakeholders across the region.
  • Develop fair and sustainable pricing mechanisms for all sustainably harvested products.
  • Work with communication staff to publicize issues and achievements of the project to both internal and external audiences, and to support partners in communicating about their efforts.
  • Promote and advance the Patagonian Grasslands Conservation Project as a flagship TNC´s initiative in Argentina.
  • Coordinate and supervise technical aspects of field-based interns and volunteers.
  • Develop and manage strategy budget.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • S/he will be responsible for developing tools and methods to effect greater rangeland conservation through enhanced planning, management, and monitoring and restoration efforts.
  • The Coordinator will work with public and private partners to develop and disseminate tools to enable better rangeland management and conservation through: (1) multi-scale rangeland assessment and monitoring; (2) development and implementation of sustainable grazing management standards and protocols; and (3) effective communication with landscape visualization.
  • S/he will work closely with local Argentine and TNC´s SACP, international programs and U.S. Chapter scientists on the development of the necessary components for the project´s rangelands strategy.
  • S/he will help increase support from local land management agencies and private landowners involved in the project through outreach.
  • S/he will oversee the development of documentation, training material and workshops.
  • The Coordinator sill spend a substantial amount of time engaging private and public partners in other high-leverage conservation and sustainable rangeland management projects in Patagonia.  

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years experience in natural resource management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally.
  • Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, Web browsers, etc.
  • Experience performing physical work (if required).
