About the Video Contest

The Indian Ocean Commission through the ISLANDS project is launching a regional video contest for young aged 16 to 25 in Zanzibar who will be invited to make short videos on Sustainable Development  (no more than 3 minutes). The young people will be free to make the video as they wish with songs, fiction, real footage etc. Sazani Associates, having been working in Zanzibar for over 15 years, and with significant experience in sustainable development, will be the delivery partner for this project. We are looking for two volunteers to help us with this project which will include initial publicity for the contest, a day for the launch of the contest, supporting all interested young people to attend Sazani run sessions in Sustainable Development and Media, assisting the Selection Committee to select 5 contestants, supporting these contestants with further film and editing training and to ensure all contest receive appropriate assistance so that they can produce their video.

Your Roles and Responsibilities

• Helping to organise media publicity for the contest

• Organising venues and logistics

• Assisting with Sustainable Development and Media training to the interested young people

• Assisting with the competition and the Selection Committee

• Assisting the Zanzibar office staff with the delivery of this contest to ensure everything is kept to the timescale

• Keeping the Project Manager up to date with developments and assisting the Project Manager as and when required.

   

Costs

The three month placement will cost £1500 which will cover:

• Volunteer visa

• Half board accommodation in Stonetown, Zanzibar

• Introduction to the local culture and an induction with the local team

• Transfers to and from the airport

• Support from Zanzibar and UK staff members

• Project support costs

Additional costs include flights, inoculations, health insurance and additional living expenses.
