Description |
SDRN is a Defra-funded research network which has been coordinatedby the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) since 2001. It includes approximately 2,500 members from across government and the research community and its aim is to facilitate and strengthen the links between providers of evidence and policy-makers across government. From 2011 to 2014, SDRN is embarking on an ambitious programme of research translation, dissemination and communication activity. This will include rapid reviews of existing research evidence relevant to the Government’s evolving sustainable development policies, expert support to help achieve the mainstreaming of sustainable development across government, an ongoing series of workshops and seminars, and the highly-rated Annual Conference. SDRN will also be seeking to work more closely with the Devolved Administrations. Defra’s 2010-13 Evidence and Investment Strategy recently reviewed the SDRN and concluded that its value lies in it being able to “provide policy advice and expert opinion on sustainable development issues...” and enabling “...Defra to keep in touch and test ideas with a wide variety of sustainable development researchers and opinion leaders”. We are looking to appoint a new Advisory Committee Chair who can help build on these achievements. The role of the Chair of the Advisory Committee includes: acting as a figurehead for SDRN; chairing three meetings per year of the high-level SDRN Advisory Committee; chairing an Annual SDRN Conference; providing advice to the SDRN coordinators (who run the Network) and Defra on relevant sustainable development research and policy issues; attendance at a small number of additional meetings through the year in relation to specific SDRN activities; and occasional input to media activity with support from PSI. The time commitment associated with this role is on average over a year between ½ and one day per month. The Chair will be paid a small annual honorarium of £2,000 in addition to reasonable travel and subsistence expenses. The SDRN Advisory Committee is classified as a Stakeholder Group under Cabinet Office guidance and is therefore not a Non-Departmental Public Body. Defra welcomes applications regardless of a person’s race, ethnic or national origin, sex, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, religion, religious beliefs or similar philosophical belief, age, gender re-assignment or community background. We would particularly welcome candidates from under-represented groups, for example women, people with disabilities and members from Black, Asian and Ethnic Minorities. This appointment will be made on merit following a fair, open and transparent process. Further information about SDRN, the Chair role and application process are available at: http://www.sd-research.org.uk/. The closing date for applications is 12.00 Noon on Monday 7th November 2011. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on either Tuesday 15th or Thursday 17th of November. |
