Objective The Growhampton project team will work to transform a currently under-utilised social space into a vibrant hub of student engagement and activity. The Growhampton coffee shop will be at the centre of the hub. The enterprise has two aims, firstly being financially viable to support the continuation of Growhampton and secondly to promote the ethos and support the work of Growhampton. The objective of this role is to manage the Growhampton coffee shop and contribute to its establishment. The post holder will be instrumental in establishing the coffee shop as the heart of the Growhampton project. It will become regarded for its high quality coffee, excellent customer service and ethical produce which will be local and organic where possible. Coffee will be complemented with a simple menu of soups, salads and sandwiches. The unique physical structure is being created using two recycled shipping containers. The interior will be created from upcycled materials where possible, creating a rustic, cosy and welcoming atmosphere. The role aims to engage students, staff and the local community in sustainability by showcasing best practice. This will include maintaining the highest ethical and sustainability standards in procurement, resource-use, waste management, accessibility and equal opportunities. Central to this role will be commercial acumen. Growhampton was established in September 2013 and is funded through the Student Green Fund until August 2015.
