Description

Forum for the Future is offering an internship opportunity for an enthusiastic, highly analytical individual to join the Sustainable Business team for approximately three months, starting in November 2013.

This internship will focus on in-depth development of Forum for the Future’s thought leadership on emergent sustainable business models (for example, a business that relies on peer-to-peer lending, or closed-loop materials to function). The successful candidate will conduct research and analysis that, by the end of the internship, allows Forum to articulate a coherent family of business models which enable new levels of sustainability performance.

During this internship, the successful candidate will work closely with members of the sustainable business team, including the Head and Deputy Director, to guide successful research, analysis and development of thought leading materials. Although business model work is the primary focus, the intern will participate in other projects and initiatives as required. The intern may work on tasks across other Forum teams and projects, including planning and execution for Forum Network events.

Person Specification:

At least two of the following:

  • An enthusiastic self-starter with a highly analytical approach to qualitative research, ideally demonstrated through past work. Previous experience researching and producing publicly-available thought leadership material would be a major asset.
  • The ability to theorise and organise ambiguous sets of information and data, to produce coherent and insightful results.
  • Some knowledge and/or experience in sustainable business principles and concepts; a keen interest in gaining further exposure to this area.
  • Educated to at least an undergraduate level and/or pursuing postgraduate qualification, with distinguished results. Training in the areas of business management, product design/development, innovation, sustainability or environmental studies would be helpful.

General Skills:

  • A commitment to the values and mission of Forum for the Future is essential.
  • Previous work experience that demonstrates ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, take initiative when necessary, and assist multiple teams and/or projects in a busy office environment.
  • Experience in major independent research projects is desirable.
  • Good ICT skills, including working knowledge of MS Office, especially PowerPoint and Word.

Benefits of this internship:

  • Practical experience in projects centred on sustainable business concepts and practices.
  • Project management and research skills development.
  • Build up knowledge and experience of sustainable business and how it is applied in an advisory and consultancy setting.
  • Access to the entire team at Forum for the Future, its resources and expertise.

Daily lunch expenses up to £5 and transport costs (within Zone 6) are covered.

This internship is for a period of approximately three months starting in November 2013, excluding a break between Christmas and the New Year. Timing of exact start and end dates is flexible. Full- or part-time applications will be considered. Working hours to be negotiated.

To Apply:

Please apply with a CV, completed equal opportunities form and covering letter.

  • CVs should be no more than two sides in length.
  • Covering letters should be no more than one side.
  • Clearly outline in your covering letter how your skills match those identified in the Person Specifications above.
