Role Profile

The ZSL Sustainable Business programme works to achieve a world where business practices protect & enhance biodiversity. This role will work across project and advisory units, with a heavy focus on communications for ZSL’s flagship SPOTT project. Reporting to the Sustainable Business Project Manager, the Communications Coordinator shall maintain and update the SPOTT website, design and develop publications and other media and curate a strong social media presence, as well as contributing to sustainability research and project administration.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Updating the SPOTT website including publishing new blog posts and monitoring usage through Google Analytics.
  • Supporting in the design and proofreading of documents and publications for external audiences.
  • Managing SPOTT social media platforms on Twitter and LinkedIn including planning, designing and posting 8-10 posts per week.
  • Developing the SPOTT quarterly newsletters and other emails to SPOTT mailing lists.
  • Monitoring the media for any potentially relevant coverage including checking daily Google Alerts for all SPOTT-assessed companies and sending weekly media digest emails to the team.
  • Supporting with project administration such as supporting project managers in providing reports to donors and liaising with the ZSL press team regarding press releases for assessment launches.
  • Assisting with technical research in the preparation and delivery of SPOTT assessments including liaising with assessors and subcontractors.

Person Specification

  • BSc/BA in a relevant subject or relevant experience
  • Experience working in the environmental or sustainability sector, especially focussed on deforestation (highly desirable)
  • WordPress website maintenance, design and/or development experience
  • Experience developing social media campaigns and/or experience with social media analytics and developing content
  • Experience working within Google Analytics.
  • Experienced user of InDesign (desirable)
  • Experienced user of MS Office 365 packages (specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint)
  • MySQL database experience (desirable)
  • Web development skills (HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript) and use of GitHub (desirable)
