Background

As the largest modern University in Scotland we recognise the impact that our activities have upon the environment and realise we have a significant role to play in supporting national Climate Change Programmes, working towards a 20% reduction in carbon by the end of 2014. UWS is a four campus University located in Ayr, Dumfries, Paisley and Hamilton; we have over 19,000 students and nearly 1,400 staff. The Sustainable Behaviour Assistant post will be based at Paisley campus with a remit covering all four campuses.

Objective

This post will involve a coordinating and supportive role to ensure the effective implementation and impact of Green Impact and Halls Energy Saving Programmes in order to achieve an increase in the pro-environmental behaviours of students and staff within the university and accommodation. This is a 6 month, part-time post that will deliver the Green Impact and Halls Energy Saving Programme objectives, as well as enhance the capacity and impact of the sustainability team across UWS as a whole.

The part time nature of this role will enable the graduate to develop not only the skills and outputs required as part of Green Impact (and SSO), but also to work as an integral part of the environment team to create and drive forward further initiatives across the university’s staff, students and estates.

 

Essential Selection Criteria

  1. Candidates must be a graduate
  2. An excellent communicator: able to comfortably express themselves and environmental issues verbally, in written text to a variety of different audiences as well as in one-to-one situations Experience and enthusiasm for articulating this through marketing materials (e.g. producing news items and a newsletter and creating on-line communities).
  3. Creative and innovative thinker and problem-solver that can formulate ideas and appropriately execute them.
  4. ICT literacy in all Office applications but especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  5. Conscientious organiser, able to plan and organise their work appropriately.
  6. Experience of or a relevant qualification in carrying out environmental audits and the provision of energy advice.
  7. Demonstrable ability to motivate others into action.
  8. Demonstrable commitment and motivation to complete the project and deliver the projects aims.
