Description

One person in three in the world lives in poverty. Oxfam is determined to change that world by tackling the root causes of poverty. This could be by mobilising the power of people through to embracing innovative solutions.

We are looking for someone to play a vital role representing Oxfam in an important new technology-based nutrition initiative, alongside guiding our global sustainable agriculture strategy.

The role

The position of Sustainable Agriculture and Gender Adviser is two-fold.

The first is a unique opportunity to influence the design and implementation of a new programme covering sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia. The programme will deliver a range of mobile-enabled services covering nutrition, agriculture and health care. And you will lead Oxfam?s participation.

In this pivotal role as Oxfam?s representative on this global Initiative you will provide advisory support on Sustainable Agriculture and Women?s Empowerment including technical input to content generation and implementation of new mobile-enabled services in 14 countries. And you will support Oxfam?s country teams to ensure that they understand the requirements of the programme and have in place the necessary support structures and capacity.

Your role will include project and financial management ? including controlling Oxfam?s grant for the initiative. Working with finance and admin staff, you will lead on the finalisation of all reports.

The second part of the job will require you to provide technical support to Oxfam and our affiliates to design a strategy to intensify sustainable agriculture. You will then support the implementation of this strategy across Oxfam?s international programmes.

In this capacity, you will lead a process with Economic Justice Advisers to develop Oxfam?s thinking and strategy. You will work with fundraising teams to secure funding for policy work in this sector alongside communicating our sustainable agriculture message to engage others in our work. You will also lead and co-ordinate the development of learning and programme policy, ensuring that gender equality is central in all our work on agricultural policy development.

What we?re looking for

Given the nature of the work and the role you will be fulfilling, having a proven technical agronomic background is essential. In addition, you will be able to demonstrate that you understand the specific livelihood challenges faced by women and have evidence of identifying opportunities for women's empowerment.

In such a high-profile role as a representative of Oxfam, you will have the ability to work closely with external organisations and to communicate appropriately to various levels of audience both external and internal, coupled with proven ability to manage relationships within an institution and with businesses.

We are looking for a self-motivated team player who has the skills, the experience and the drive to develop opportunities and relationships that will result in a positive change in levels of poverty around the world.

It?s a big ask, but it?s a unique, high profile and rewarding role that doesn?t come up every day. You will have the opportunity to influence civil and private sector organisations, and national governments in the design of new mobile-based nutrition services for women and smallholder famers, as well as changing the thinking on sustainable agriculture.

You will be supported to develop your career and be given the flexibility to determine your own objectives and identify new areas of work. And you should expect extensive travel opportunities to see your ideas in action.
