BROAD FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

The Sustainability Programs Manager is responsible for the overall development and implementation of Del Monte’s sustainability strategy and initiatives which is to promote efficient, cost effective technologies and operations at all levels of the company with the objective of being environmentally responsible and economically viable.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core Competencies
This position will have extensive interaction with a cross functional set of internal departments (Communications, Finance, Human Resources, Operations, Operations Services, Marketing, Sales, and Transportation) and outside customers and will represent the company on this issue. Research and implement other cost saving strategies and partner with private, government, and non-governmental organizations to further reduce Del Monte’s environmental footprint. Design and initiate programs that maximize Del Monte’s ability to successfully integrate sustainable materials, products and processes into the business. Create sustainability policies to improve sustainable performance and ease of internal and external communication. Create and maintain a Corporate Sustainability intranet site with regular updates, and ensure that information contained on the site is accurate, current and consistent with the latest collected indicators.

The Senior Manager, Sustainability Programs will be responsible for:
• Strategy definition and maintenance: Work with the Sustainability Leadership Team to define, implement and maintain Del Monte’s sustainability strategy.
• Communications: Work closely with corporate communications to craft a consistent and inspiring message to all our stakeholders about our efforts in sustainability.
• Project identification and management: Work with both internal and external resources to identify opportunities and projects that allow us to improve our sustainability position. Position would lead and serve on project teams as well as manage outsourced projects at Universities and vendors.
• Industry workshops, seminars and company representation: Attending seminars and industry workshops where the objective is to both learn and influence the Industry on sustainability issues. Customer and Industry presentations.
• Management presentations and updates: Position will regularly go to Senior Management to obtain project approvals and to communicate updates.

Level of Decision-Making
This position will have significant decision making authority to achieve the initiatives agreed upon by the Senior Management team. The position will have authority and support through the Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Operations Services and Senior Manager of Environmental Services.

Confidentiality
This position will require significant confidentiality as they will have access to sensitive and confidential company information and will be working on projects that the company feels will deliver a competitive advantage over its competition.

EDUCATION:
Masters in Business Administration or Environmental Studies. Substantial knowledge, experience and understanding of corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability are required.

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of three years experience in senior-level supervisory leadership and experience with environmental projects, community outreach and/or brand marketing, with experience in the public, private and/or NGO sectors.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Outstanding communications and presentation skills required. Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across diverse teams as well as analytical thinking required.
• Experience managing project budgets and subcontractors
• Strong organization skills, including strong project and program management skills
• Experience in performing energy payback analysis for in-place mechanical and electrical facility systems
• Experience performing technical analysis of energy projects
• Effective multitasking skills
