Background:

The Facilities Department of Barking, Havering & Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust manages a variety of sites within the NHS. These range from acute hospitals down to small health centre, clinics and residential homes. The total annual bill for energy, water and waste is approaching £5m. In common with all NHS estates, BHRUT is under increasing financial and regulatory pressure to actively manage its environmental performance. This includes improving the monitoring and targeting of energy performance, measuring carbon emissions and raising staff awareness. The primary goal of BHRUT is to improve the health and lives of clients and patients. However, the importance of environmental management is an important contributory factor in achieving this goal.

Objective:

To assist the Sustainability Manager in implementing actions to improve environmental performance on the Trust’s estate and its wider activities. The focus of the post will be on waste management and awareness raising.
