Job Introduction

BBC Workplace exists to provide great spaces that work for creative people and to help get programmes made while keeping the BBC on air. We set the strategic direction for the BBC estate and provide buildings and facilities management across the UK and manage construction and other property change projects. We ensure BBC buildings, sites and productions are safe, secure, sustainable and on air. The Safety, Security and Resilience team work with production and the wider business to enable safe, secure and continuous production and broadcast

BBC Workplace is responsible for the management of BBC premises and the development of the BBC’s Environmental Management Policies, Technical Standards and Guidelines along with ensuring environmental compliance across the BBC. The Sustainability Advisor will join a small team dedicated to furthering the BBC’s sustainability achievements.  The Manager will help and support FM and catering teams in their efforts to reduce their environmental impact within BBC buildings.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work closely with facilities management and catering service providers, giving help and advice on any aspect of how they can reduce the environmental impact of their operations, facilities and processes.
  • Act as Primary Contact for various sub contractors for data collection and analysis
  • Guide FM and catering service providers through the process of monitoring and reporting their environmental performance, including analysis of energy, waste, water and carbon data and providing advice for practical actions based upon them.
  • Track the progress of all BBC buildings, departments and projects to identify trends in environmental performance and investigate deviations from normal consumption.
  • Support BBC workplace team to improve the environmental performance in new and existing buildings by assessing current performance, generating and distributing reports identifying and implementing projects to support the BBC sustainability strategy and targets.
  • Speak to internal groups and meetings about sustainability at the BBC.
  • Collaborate and share learning where appropriate with other BBC divisions, existing industry partners and other facility management and catering service providers with the aim of sharing best practice on sustainable buildings and workplaces.
  • Communicate with BBC staff to raise awareness of environmental issues, initiatives and building environmental performance.
