Berkeley Homes plc is seeking to recruit a Sustainability Manager to help promote sustainability across Berkeley Homes and its operating businesses, part of the Berkeley Group, a leader in the business of urban regeneration.

The Berkeley Group's commitment to sustainability has been recognised through numerous achievements, such as being awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development and being recognised by the NextGeneration Initiative as being a leader in the field of sustainability.

The Group has made a number of strong public sustainability commitments and require an individual to join the team who has the drive to ensure that these commitments are consistently delivered upon. For more information about the company, please visit www.berkeleygroup.co.uk or www.berkeleyhomes.co.uk.

The role of Sustainability Manager will require you to lead and deliver the Berkeley Group's sustainability strategy within Berkeley Homes and contribute to the strategic direction that is being taken by the Berkeley Group.

The role has defined strategic and operational elements to it. You will be required to manage the environmental impact of Berkeley Homes developments, with specific focus on reducing the environmental impact of the construction process. This is predominantly accomplished by building knowledge and capacity within project and management teams, as well as visiting and advising on each of the construction sites within the organisation.

As Sustainability Manager, it will also be your responsibility to deliver and advise on the sustainability strategy, both to ensure that the Berkeley Group's sustainability commitments are successfully delivered across the businesses and to ensure that the future direction of the strategy is well informed. You will be required to represent Berkeley Homes on strategic forums as well as organising sustainability working groups for representatives across the business.

Within the role, you will be supported by the Sustainability Assistant, who you will have some line management responsibilities for.

The right candidate will have three or more years experience working in sustainability and environmental management, preferably in the house building sector. You should also have:

- A relevant degree and/or qualification (Diploma or an MSc in a sustainability or environmental discipline, IEMA Associate Member or higher)
- A good understanding of relevant environmental legislation and policies
- Detailed knowledge of the Code for Sustainable Homes, BREEAM or Ecohomes
- Good knowledge of the house building sector
- Experience of working in a construction environment
- Significant practice of delivering training programmes
- Experience in developing and implementing environmental management systems
- Experience of engaging with all levels in an organisation
- A degree of technical knowledge and capability
- Strong communication skills (IT, report writing, presentations)
- Confidence, motivation and enthusiasm

The position will be based at the Chelsea Bridge Wharf office in Battersea, but the role will require a significant amount of travel around offices and construction sites in London and the South East of England. For this reason, you will be required to hold a full UK driving licence.

The right candidate will be offered a competitive package (salary negotiable) including a company car/ allowance, initially 23 days annual leave, contributory pension scheme, private health insurance.

To apply for the post, you must be a UK resident or hold a UK work permit.
