Will work cross-functionally with Engineering, R&D, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing and Procurement to perform Life Cycle Analysis on existing products, analyze sustainable attributes of existing products, products in development and emerging raw materials. Will develop a solid understanding of the current raw materials used in existing products and emerging materials as it relates to sustainability and environmental footprint of the materials and the end user product from cradle to end of life.

Applicants must demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of life cycle analysis/inventory and ability to develop a thorough understanding of Solo’s products, raw materials utilized, environmental footprint of products and the sales and marketing positioning for each product.

  • Prepare analysis and recommendation for priority list for completion of life cycle analysis on Solo’s existing products.
  • Identify, evaluate and recommend third party to perform LCA. Oversee third party provider and facilitate and gather necessary information for completion of LCA including compiling quantitative and qualitative product and operational information and competitive product and operational information.
  • Understand how emerging legislation and requirements may impact existing and potential products and competitive positioning.
  • Evaluate various environmental and sustainable levers of products and operations to potentially offset existing or emerging environmental impacts.
  • Work with and assist Materials Engineering, Sales and Marketing to analyze the financial and value based proposition for expansion of eco-forward™ products.
  • Work with Materials Engineering to develop and administer a reporting method and tools to keep appropriate individuals updated and informed on a consistent basis of emerging material development for use in single use foodservice products.
  • Assist and provide project management on customer recycling and composting projects as directed.
  • Participate in market conferences, associations and committees as directed to identify emerging needs and solutions.
  • Assist with strategic partnership projects including the Solo Sustainability Action Network.
  • Actively communicate within cross-functional areas in Solo Cup to increase general awareness of sustainable strategies and efforts.
  • Lead, coordinate and facilitate for teams working on sustainability projects.
  • Support the VP Sustainability and work on other department projects as necessary

*Will perform other duties as assigned.

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or related field with emphasis on sustainability
  • Demonstrated experience in life cycle analysis/inventory (two year minimum work experience in LCA/LCI preferred).
  • Experience with single use foodservice materials (paper, plastic, compostable) and understanding of recycling and composting infrastructures a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, self starter and ability to achieve results by working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, under little supervision. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Sima Pro, GaBi or other life cycle software.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize accordingly.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Positive attitude, creative and high level of energy and understanding of sustainable principles.
  • Must be willing to travel when necessary (5-10%).
