The Sustainability Director will oversee 4 sustainability interns in 2015. Please identify which internship you are applying for, and why you consider yourself to be qualified, in your cover letter. Closely follow the application instructions, below.  All of these internships are housed in the City Hall Mayor's Office and work with the Sustainability Director

Sustainability Internship Projects and Responsibilities 

  1. Sustainable Neighborhood Initiative Internship has been FILLED –The City of St. Louis Sustainable Neighborhood Initiative is designed to support neighborhood-scale sustainability. The intern will be responsible for updating existing tools and creating additional resources, as well as providing capacity building to neighborhood specialists and organizations. 
  2. Sustainability Office Internship has been FILLED - The City's Sustainability program has general functions that require further development. This intern will help establish the Mayor's Community Council for Sustainability Implementation and work on creating sustainability materials and documents for the Mayor's Sustainability Summit IV.
  3. Climate Change Internship has been FILLED - This intern will assist with promoting several climate-related projects and initiatives, including measures to measure and promote conservation, prevention, mitigation and adaptation. 
  4. Milkweeds for Monarchs Internship has been FILLED - This intern will provide administrative support to the Milkweeds for Monarchs Coordinator and Sustainability Director.

ALL INTERNS will be expected to support outreach efforts and participate in developing materials and delivering communications programs.

Commitment and Logistical Expectations

  • The required 2015 Summer Sustainability Internship period is 10 weeks, starting in the office Wednesday, May 20th until Friday, July 24th. Some online preparation is required prior to start date. There is an opportunity to extend the internship into August or beyond.
  • Summer Interns are expected to work 5 days a week, approximately 9am - 5pm. Some weekend time will be needed but there is flexibility in hours. Interns working during the academic year are expected to work at least 2 days a week in the office and approximately 20 yours a week total.
  • Unless otherwise noted, all internships are unpaid.
  • Where possible, internships can be made available for academic credit.
  • Interns should have access to their own cellophane and transportation during the internship.

Background and Qualifications Required

  • Previous urban sustainability work or research experience that relates to the position description
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The capacity to work both independently and as part of a team
  • An ability to take initiative balanced by good judgment keeping the Sustainability Director informed
  • Experience with Webster content/management or using Indexing
