An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sustainability (Engagement) Assistant to join our growing Sustainability team at the University of Essex.  

Duties of the Role

The post-holder will report to the Sustainability Engagement Officer and will be involved with a range of sustainability projects as we aim to reduce our carbon emissions. Through programmes such as Green Impact you will help to raise awareness of environmental issues amongst our staff and students, and what they can do to make a difference, across our three campuses. Responsibilities will include:
• Assisting on the delivery of the Sustainability Engagement Strategy and Action Plan.

• Assisting on Student engagement work to raise awareness of sustainability across the student community, and contribute towards energy and water reduction in accommodation.

• Attending Fresher’s Fairs and other key events to engage with Students.

• Co-ordinating the day-to-day administration of the Green Impact staff engagement programme.

• Assisting on the production of promotional material for engagement purposes and of regular communications.

• Assisting on the updating of the Sustainability website pages, social media accounts and internal communications such as Essex Weekly.

• Recording and collecting data on levels of engagement related to progress on Sustainability and Energy reduction matters.

Skills and Qualifications required

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of current issues around climate change and sustainable development, along with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. You will be motivated to make a difference and be proactive in your approach.

You will also need:
• GCSE Grade C and above, or equivalent, in English and Mathematics and 3 other subjects. 

• Experience of working within a similar role. 

• Experience using social media to engage with people and communicate.

• Ability to prioritise tasks and to work on your own initiative, as well as part of a team.
